I told you guys a while ago that Walmart was bringing back Layaway. Well, Today is the day it starts! Layaway is available starting today Oct 17 with final payment and pickup by Dec. 16th! I know this is a tough economy and this will really help to avoid the last minute shopping after saving your money. There is nothing worse than saving up for months for the kiddos and then not being able to find what they really really want. This is also a great alternative to using credit cards to pay for Christmas this year and avoid piling up the debt!
I know there are some restrictions that are not really popular, overall this is a great program that can make sure you get the stuff you want and allows you to pay for it over time.

Christmas Layaway Is Easy at Walmart Stores
The convenience of Christmas Layaway is now available on eligible toys and electronics that you purchase at your nearby Walmart store. It’s easy to take advantage of Christmas Layaway from Oct. 17 until you make your final payment and pick up your items by December 16, 2011. Just place your eligible items on layaway at the Walmart.com desk in your local store, where you will also pick up the items. Each item must be $15 or more and your total purchase must be over $50. There is a $5 service charge, and you can make payments on your Christmas Layaway items at any register in your Walmart store. Christmas Layaway is not offered on Friday, November 25, 2011 and is not offered on wireless phones that require contracts. Cancellation and service fees may vary by state and are non-refundable. Our store associates can provide you with complete details on these fees and any other restrictions that may apply. So get ready for the holidays with the convenience of Christmas Layaway at Walmart stores.

I know this might seem like a weird question but I heard somewhere that layaway can build your credit score?! Does anyone know if this is true?
I’ve never heard of a Layway that reports to any credit bureau, so they can’t help you build your credit score, sorry!
Maybe you are thinking of something like Fingerhut or Home Shopping – I think those report?

Is it true that if you layway say a tv at $350 and becomes cheaper overtime at that walmart that they will reduce that price? I wasn’t sure if they do that or not? Also will it work if another store has a lower price on the same tv after a couple of weeks on layway will they lower the price to match it?

Layaway does not build your credit score, but it will keep you from getting into credit card debt! 🙂
My Wal-mart had no clue about the layaway program? I asked them about it and they looked at me like I had 2 heads.
I’ve seen this posted on other blogs and the response from readers have not been very favorable…something to do with the all the rules and such of the layaway. It seems it’s only valid on certain departments like toys and electronics and there is a minimum you have to buy in order to put it in layaway. Have not read the rules myself but wanted to FYI everyone 🙂
Just did layaway and the girl told me that you can price match at anytime during the layaway just bring in the ad and show them and they will adjust it. I got my daughter the talking fisher price pup and price matched targets ad.
@ jamie thank you so much i have a really hard time saving at walmart and i want to try the layaway since they are bring it back for the holiday and that was a concern of mine if i would be able to REALLY save if I can price match. 🙂
Do you have to wait to pick up your item until it is paid off or can you pick it up right away?
you have to wait until it is paid for
yeah just found out they will price match any add with your layaway…just bring it in when you pay it off in full and the will do the difference…also you can add items and remove items from your layway
