A reader (Arianne) sent this in this photo from her Walmart store in west TX. It is obviously a Walmart sign and they want to encourage you to trade and swap coupon between customers.
I thought I would see what a few local Walmart stores would do if I asked if I could set up a basket in the front of the store with basically the same sign:
- 4 out of 7 said that YES I could.
- The other 2 said they would need to check with higher management.
- 1 just said “no thanks.”
- Most would need to approve my sign first.
When I asked about location, it looked like the general spot they would put it would be by the service center.
I would encourage you to ask at your store and see if that would be something they would support. Make a nice, professional ( you know what I mean) sign, and bring it in to show them. Add a basket and see what happens!
The benefits would be:
- A chance to pick up coupons that you can use and might not have.
- Opportunities to meet other couponers, and share deals.
- Create a chance to educate the cashiers and CSM about couponing.
Let us know if you are able to add a coupon swap basket in your store!
I’ve seen this before (15-20 years ago) witha larger bins placed in an isle of the store. I remember using it, but was time consuming and kind of a mess at times.
I was wondering if you could clarify the part of the sign that states: Local competitors coupons are welcome at Walmart. Thanks! 🙂
Walmart accepts competitor coupons (store coupons that are non-MFG) that state the price of the item.
I saw this…but at another store! I LOVE IT!
there is one of these at my 2 local walmarts, madison heights and lynchburg va
Can u use a competitor store coupon & a manf coupon?
the easiest way to do it is do it a s a price match. that is how they enter it into the register. You ae then allowed to use a MFG coupon
With Q’s expiring so quickly these days who on earth is going to go through that basket once a week and pull out expired Q’s? I don’t even do that with my own Q’s! lol I personally would not use it. I already make my trips to Walmart as fast as possible, I surely don’t want to stand around digging through Q’s….I already do that at home!! 🙂 Would probably be good for someone who doesn’t already spend their days couponing. I always like to leave Q’s next to items if I know I am not going to use them so the next person who comes along can use it.
Did you know that expired coupons can be sent to our service men and women? Maybe whoever (individual or group) sets up the basket in their particular store could make a commitment to pulling the expired coupons and dropping them in the mail. I don’t know the address, but maybe someone here does? @Angela & @Jessica, you can do the same as individuals. They can use them a lot longer than the expiration date 🙂
I knew Walmart would price check but I have never heard of them accepting coupons from other stores. I don’t think my Walmart in Opelika,AL does that.

@ Angela: I have to agree with you. I have enough trouble keeping up with my own coupons. Don’t need to go digging through someone elses. I also leave coupons I don’t want on the shelf next to the item. I find coupons this way all the time as well. I can see it being a good idea for some. But, the stores won’t put up with it long because I can see it creating a mess.
It might also be a good idea to have a spot for copies of Walmarts Coupon Policy near the basket. It may encourage new couponers as well to coupon at Walmart.

I have a site on facebook that is for swapping coupons and meetups at our local McDonald’s here in Mayfield, KY. We get together and swap the coupons we dont need with others, it is a lot of fun and great to meet others in the area that coupon too.

Walmart needs to change the sign from competitor coupons to price match. Because they don’t really except competitor coupon they price match…..very deceiving….
They do match competitor coupons, for example if my Safeway ad has extra savings coupons that state the price for the item that counts as a price match, then you can still use a manufacturers coupon on that item. They however do not take the coupons that are for a percentage off a item. This is clearly stated in the walmart coupon policy. I do this all the time with no problems at my local walmart in Washington State.
Ours tried it – Someone kept taking ALL the coupons – so they quit. Greedy people ruin it for us all.
That was my exact thought when I first read this. Horrible that my mind went straight to the greedy people out there who would surely ruin it, but that’s just how it is I guess. I figure the thieves are probably ebay sellers too, to add insult to injury.
My other thought was that a shopper who doesn’t find the value in coupons (and who sees them more of a nuisance) and happened to need a hand basket at that moment would just dump them on the floor and take the basket to use for shopping. Though both situations are sad, I’m certain they’re both possible. I definitely don’t see this working in my area. *sigh*
I thought the same thing. :0(
totally of topic..but it was brought up on some of the comment…my question is if walmart has and item for .99cents and i have a TARGET coupon for the sale item of $1 off will they take that coupon as part of their Competitors’ coupon policy??
Thanks in advance!
only if the coupon states the price of the product at Target and not just an amount off.
my local wallmart has a basket like this with the same sign at each door its allmost allways full!
well that’s positive, where are you Joanne?
No…. My walmart will not take coupons from other stores but will pricematch if there is a price listed in the ad!!
Great idea, I always have so many coupons I can’t use and hate to throwout
You can also send them to our troops.

All 3 of our Walmart stores have a big box (and I mean big, probably 3 foot high) that sits at the grocery entrances to the store. It’s been great. Only issue I ever see is .. the banks and the Subways tend to throw flyers and things in there. Also, no one ever takes out expired coupons.
Paul, Can you tell us which Walmarts you visited and which location said yes, maybe or no thanks?
I will once I have it set up. I am working on area approval so no one gets in trouble
One of the two walmarts I go to has a huge box for coupons as well, one at each entrance. That particular walmart also clips all the extra coupons from their leftover sunday papers and adds them to the box as well. Needless to say, since they’ve implimented that, its the walmart I frequent now!
Kim is awesome! She pvdeiors an amazing service for anyone who gets coupons through her. Kim takes the time to send out emails, which are very helpful to forgetful people like me, reminding me if it is a good week of coupons coming up. I have never had any kind of a problem using her service. I always receive my coupons super fast. Kim is also on top of her game when it comes to contacting customers. She replies almost immediately any time I send her an email. Kim is a great person to do business with!!
