First, thank you for all you do to provide up to date information to us couponers. I am very thankful for this site.
I do have one question about the match-up with Dollar General to Walmart. You have the Sparkle paper towels as $3.00 a package when you buy two. However, when I looked at the Dollar General circular, the sales price is $4. So if you take $4 x 2 = $8 – $1/2 manu coupon makes it $3.50 a package, not $3 as posted. Is this correct or am I missing something. 🙂

Lindsey, I figured the same cost that you did. My ad says $4 and with a $1/2 coupon…$3.50 when you buy 2.

i don’t like going to DG anymore because they won’t accept my credit card (reward points) so now it just encourages me more to go to walmart and price match… as long as walmart doesn’t keep giving me troubles. last time i used a b&w coupon and told me it was a copy. i told the cashier i printed the coupons (2) at work and we don’t have a color printer.
They should have taken it even if it was only in black and white, I believe their coupon policy states they take them that way and I have never had a problem using them without color-I always print coupons in grayscale to save $ on ink. Now if they “thought” it was a copy- there is really nothing you can do about that- they have the right to refuse them. I would just try again a different day with a different cashier if it’s something you really want.
I had this same problem. I went to get the BIC pens and the cashier was having a hard time getting the coupon to scan so she asked her boss. He read on the bottom where it says can not be photo copied and he tried telling me that I photo copied that coupon because it was black and white. I told him it was not photo copied that was illegal to do and I was not going to jail over a dang coupon. He made a big stink over a $1.00 off coupon so I told them not to worry they could just take them off my order. The only reason I print in black in white is to save ink.
Has anyone had a problem matching dollar stores at Walmart before. Last week they wouldn’t match a dollar store saying it’s their policy not to. Never heard this before and i’ve been price matching for a year now….. anyone else heard of this???

They typically all not match the $.99 store or stores that are advertised as Everything Under $1. Family Dollar and Dollar General are pretty commonly Price Matched. DG had a lot of good things this week but it is probably less than a 1/4 of the ad that is lower than Walmart.
thanks for posting this matchup bc i looked thru my coupon stash and i have 8 of those inserts!!!!! SO i calculated 32 cans of veggies for $8 total :)!…this comes at a great time for me as my SAM’s Club boxes of corn and green beans are empty as of yesterday……happy couponing everyone!
My Walmart will NOT price match Dollar General or any other “discount” store.
Where did you hear that? I have price matched to Dollar General before, they aren’t a discount store, they don’t have overstocks, refurbished, or damaged items. I know that it depends on the cashier sometimes because they don’t know they’re own coupon policy. Just keep the print out of their coupon policy with you so you can show them. Thats what I had to do before when they told me you can’t have a coupon worth more than the item… I got my item with my coupon for free with overage! 🙂
I have never price matched…how do it? Do I go to customer service?
No, you just go to the normal check out lines, I always put my regular priced items first, so I’ll have time to empty my cart before the cashier gets to my price match items, let the cashier know you are priced matching items. The cashier will ring up the item, ask for the price match price, and override the price at the register. If the price match is over half of what walmart price is, they may ask to see the ad, so I always take my ads with me just in case. Hope this helps!
I do the same thing Roxie….it is just easier that way. And I almost always try to get the same cashier because I have had a few bad apples here and there about coupons and price matching.
Can you just do these deals at Dollar General without going to Walmart, or do they not take coupons?
First just want to say thanks for all the wonderful things you put on this website… I love this site & visit daily to see new deals… Next want to tell you I was cringing to get all of my $8/2 covergirls used before they expired but I did it! I broke up my transactions over multiple days.Your awesome Paul & thank you for all you do!
Dollar General price may beat walmart on the day that you get to use a 5.00/25.00 coupon from DG. It prints out on a store receipt the week of the sale, which if usually on a Sat. Last week it was for Fri. You can got to their website http://www.dollargeneral.com and see if there is a coupon to print, which there is this week. To get the most value for you money stay close to 25.00 because the discount goes down. It takes .20 off the 1.00 for 1.00 off 5.00.
You present the DG discount/coupon first then all other coupons next. You start off with a 25.00 or slightest higher total and you price goes down from there. A coupon buddy ended up with owing only 8.31 for one of her transactions last week. You can also hold on to your coupon to make more that one transaction. I did 3 last week with the same coupon.
Tide 72oz is on sale there this week for 9.00. There is a 2.00 coupon in last Sun P&G coupon insert. Now you are down to 7.00. DG discount saves you .20 on the 1.00, making you save 1.80 more on this bottle of Tide. Total is now 5.20.
If you combine a store sale, with a MQ and the 5/25 DG coupon DG may be your best store to save the most money on an item.
Even b1g1 coupons work great there. The discount comes off the free item as well.
My paper insert had the Sparkle papertowel $1/1 6 pack so mine was $3.00.Our coupons sometimes are different like this week I didn’t get the battery coupon that others have been talking about. Have a good day!

I love price matching at Walmart. I have never had problems using coupons or with them price matching items. I will never give dollar general any of my money because they are rude, and the cashiers and managers do not follow coupon policy.
The Betty Crocker website has printable coupons for the Chex cereal as well as many others at a little higher value. So you could get it for $1.11 per box if you wanted to go that route.
Also, I have been wanting to know how to figure percentage saved since Walmart doesn’t put that on the receipt. And another thing I need to know is, where does a person get the best deal on printer ink? I have two HP printers.
