There have been a ton of questions asked so I sent off to get answers to the Top 5 questions that I have been getting. All of the answers are AWESOME and will help us save tons of money the Christmas Shopping Season. I have added in my own thoughts where it says Paul’s Notes. The orange is the quoted response that I got in answer to our questions.
Black Friday Question & Answer:

1.If I have something on layaway that is in the Black Friday ad …will I get it for the cheaper price?
A: Our layaway counter will close at 3 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day and opens at 8 a.m. on Black Friday. So if a competitor’s Black Friday ad is valid during our layaway hours on Black Friday, customers can use Ad Match to get a price adjustment to their layaway account.
2. Will Walmart Price Match Black friday Ads
A: On Black Friday, we will match competitor ads for identical Black Friday products. Customers who find a lower advertised price on an identical product can have the price adjusted right at the register. Ad Match Guarantee is available all year long.
Paul’s Notes: This question came up because of the Christmas Ad Match signs that are in all of the stores. What the signs are intended to mean is that if you bought it prior to black friday you will not be able to get the difference on a gift card. I did tell them that what people would do is just return it for full price during the sale with their receipt and rebuy it at the new price. She said that would be up to an individual store manager to decide.
3. Will Walmart match online pricing?
A: No.
Paul’s Notes: I have personally spoken to many Managers that will Price Match Online deals. The criteria is this: The online retailer must have a physical store presence in that area. It must be exact and it must meet all requirements of the sale (time, day etc) and must be in stock. This will be completely up to your store manager. My advice would not be to call your store and make a big fuss or say anything to the effect of “Corporate said No, but are you going to price match online deals?” It was this way last year and most stores will honor it from what I can tell.
4. Why does it have to start so early?
A: Black Friday is our Super Bowl and we can’t start the game at half-time. Each year we work to strike the right balance between what are customers want and being competitive. We’ve seen that our customers like to shop early, get some sleep and come back again the next morning.
5. What items will form the Black Friday ad will be online.
A: Customers can also get a jump start on shopping from the comfort of their homes with special online Black Friday deals on Nov. 28. Some of the great deals available on Walmart.com include:

With the layaway issue, if you have items on layaway that are part of the 6pm sale on Black Friday for Walmart, will they honor that lower price if you go back at 8am when the layaway desk reopens? According to the response above, that desk closes at 3pm and then reopens at 8am so it is closed during the bulk of Walmart’s Black Friday deals.
the only stipulation to when the sale ends is while supplies last. That means that technically you should be able to go in at any time on Friday and get the lower price. If a sale states “one hour door buster” then you wouldn’t be able to.
to be correct: I stand in line for a $299 I-pad. I manage to get a $98.00 TV and a $278 computer (if this happens I will buy a lottery ticket). Can I put these items on layway? With the $299 Ipad is the $100 gift card mail in or can I use it to purchase on Blakc Friday?
I do not think layaway will be open during the time period that those sales will start. You would have to get them and hold them until layaway opened the next morning at 8:00. Some stores will open layaway but the corporate plan is to close layaway at 3:00 on Thursday and open at 8:00 friday morning.
I’m confused. The picture states exclusions apply to Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday ads. So if that is the case, that why are they saying yes, they will ad match Black Friday prices of other stores? I work at Walmart and so far it is our understanding that we won’t be able to match the prices on Black Friday ads from other stores. I’d really like to get confirmation of this so I can inform my managers.
It is a separate policy, you can’t go get a gift card back if you have already bought the item, but you can price match during the black friday sales.
What about gift card sales? For instance…if target has an Xbox game and their ad says it’s $25 and you get a $5 target gift card, will walmart match the $25 and give you a $5 store gift card, will they make the price only $20, or will they just price match the price to $25?
Jessica Schwarzott, it’s a little late but since nobody seemed to reply to your question: No, Walmart’s official policy is not to “Ad-Match” gift card offers. The corporate site says they will not honor “items that require a purchase to get a competitor’s gift card, example: Buy item A to get a $B gift card”. I believe that if Target has the game on sale for $25 with a $5 gift card, that falls under the gift card offer, even if you only want them to price match the $25 sale without said gift card. Hope this helps.
They also do not match “Buy One Get One” offers or offers with percentages, unless a specific price is named. For example, Toys R Us offers Buy One Skylander, Get One 70% off. It does not specify that if you buy one skylander, you will get one for $1 or the like. If a price is not listed, they are not supposed to match it. If it says “Buy one get one free” they are also not supposed to match that either, unless it says “Buy one for $5, get one free” or the like (which I’ve never seen but that’s what it says on their corporate site).
Paul, you didn’t really answer question #1, It asks if I can put something on layaway at WalMart before Black Friday and then go back to the store on Black Friday and get the WALMART Black Friday price. It wasn’t a question about price comping.

Technically then the answer would be no since the PR response is that the layaway desk will close at 3pm on Thanksgiving day and it will not reopen until 8am on Friday. I suspect that this would work IF you were buying something that starts on Event 3 at 8am, but I do not think that it will work for events 1 & 2 since they start at 6pm and 8pm when the desk will be closed.
Also, last night I went to my local Walmart to see if they had some of the items that I was looking for come Black Friday and I could not find most of the items. I was talking to one of the department managers and he told me that the majority of the stuff that they sell on Black Friday is brought in exclusively for that sale meaning that they usually do not carry some of these items in the store on a regular basis. Of course, that does not apply to every item, but he said that a large majority is sent like that.
Jen, that is when they START. The events go while supplies last. If you have one in layaway, you have a supply!
Another question about Black Friday and Layaway– do you think Black Friday products will have different sku/ barcode numbers which will make it impossible to price match? Just as an example, say I want the Crockpot for $9.44 and I go ahead and put it on Layaway today for its original price of $30. Will I be able to come in at 8am on Friday and get the price adjusted to $9.44? Or is the Crockpot on the Black Friday ad going to have a unique barcode? I’m just so confused! help!
it does happen on certain itmes, but they are generally the Special Buy or door buster items
This might sound silly, but the ads day valid until December 1. If I went to Walmart on Black Friday afternoon and they still had the smaller items (I was interested in the Better Homes and Gardens candle set for $12), would I be able to get it at that price listed in the ad? Thanks!

So will Walmart price match Black Friday and Thanksgiving day ads even though it says on the price match guarantee it says they will NOT match those prices in the ads. Which one is it, ‘yes’ or ‘no’? Went to Walmart two years ago and they prices from other Black Friday ads, not sure if they were doorbuster deals or not, but they did match the prices. Bought some games and a few movies and they matched the prices. Do they match doorbuster deals or just sale priced items in the Black Friday and Thanksgiving sales, or both? Will they match the price or will they give a gift card for the difference? I would rather get the price matched than a gift card, at least for the item I’d like to get, since it would be over $50 difference.
Usually if you have a item on layaway and that item goes on sale during black friday,whenever you go collect your layaway items you would be getting them for that sale price,last year when i went to go pay and get my layaway out,it was a WHOLE lot cheaper because of the items being on sale during black friday

No, I don’t think so. But your manager can if they want to, I wouldn’t expect them to say yes but it is worth asking.
I have a quick question. About Price Adjustments. If I buy something NOW at $300, and on Black Friday at 6pm, it goes on sale for $200, can I take my receipt at 6pm on BF and get the $100 cash or gift card?

Ok so I called our store and asked if the laptop was available the electronics rep said yes there were 3 on the shelf. My husband went there 2 hours later and the manager told them he could not put them on layaway that it wasn’t allowed. I asked him to go back and ask why. She told him they were on a truck in the back and couldn’t be touched until Thursday. I’m confused because there were some on the shelf….
So quick question i put the nabi 2 tablet on layaway and it goes on sale on the event 2 which means it goes on sale nov. 28 with the 8pm stuff, but it said that it is valid from nov. 28 through dec. 1 so does this mean i could go that morning of black friday and pick it up for that price?
So just to make sure I understand this correctly. I want to buy a TV that goes on sale at 8pm on Thanksgiving Day. I can either put it on layaway now and pick it up on black friday for the sale price OR i can buy it NOW for the full price and return/rebuy on black friday. Is that right?
It depends completey on the specifics of the sale ad itself. If it is within the sale times AND layaway is open you should have no issue.
I bought two ipad mini’s at Walmart last week, if I take the receipt back in during the sale, will I get the $100 gift card?
Will there be lines for video games on black fri or will there be wrapped boxes with the games inside?
In my experience (last year and the year before), they had people line up for the “video game section”. This was a cordoned off area that had some free-standing racks of games and consoles that were on sale. They allowed 2-3 people in at a time to browse and pick out what they wanted, before letting in another 2-3 people. They ALSO had a couple free-standing displays with the super-cheap games in them (19.99 and below) such as they do with the DVDs and TV seasons.
Will You Match Your Own Website Ad?
Just went to Walmart – West Chester, OH. They refused to price match a Meijer Black Friday ad that was going at the time of checkout. They even showed me the sign – you have on here. So the statement you got from Walmart is not being applied equally everywhere.
