I know this deal will be difficult for some people to get their Walmart to honor, but it is legit. I called 1-800-WALMART to verify before I posted this. They normally do not or should not honor competitor coupons for $ amounts off. This is different because there is a published sale price on the item. The idea behind the policy is that they want you to be able to purchase any item for the same price you can buy it at a competitor. I know not all stores view it this way and that not everyone will be able to make this deal work, but it is a killer deal and there are a lot of you that have great stores that will. Good Luck! Thanks Jessica from Kingwood!
1.Target has Colgate Optic White Toothpaste 4oz on Sale for $2.99. Walmart Price $2.96
2.They have a Target Store Printable for $1.00 off. They should price adjust this down to$1.99. You must show them both at the same time so they can see the advertised price. I also would not push for the extra $.03, they may just give it to you anyway.
3. Use the $1.50 off Colgate Optic White in the 9/11 SmartSource
NOTE: Please do not go to Walmart and do this deal by itself, if you are ONLY picking up toothpaste do it at Target. And for all that is Good and Holy, take your Target Ad with you!
Total Price: $.49!!
I would love to try this at my walmart. Walmart is about 3 mins away and target is 10 mins, but I have so many problems with walmart and coupons. I am sure this would be a headache…
So you are telling me I can go and print off the target coupons that are store coupons on their site, and use them at Walmart? I thought they had to be for a specific price and not $$ off. I am confused!
The Target ad has a specific price, I said this in the post. You cannot do this normally, but the ad states the price.
I know that ad states the price. What I am disputing is the Target coupon does not state a price. How are you able to use that coupon when it does not state a price?
Walmart wants you to be able to buy an item for the same price they can verify(with an ad) you can buy it somewhere else for. It is a printed advertised price and therefore you can use it. It will not work on other coupons that you cannot verify a price through an ad or being on the coupon itself.
Why would you need to price match it to Target when it is $2.96 at Walmart?
if you don’t show the price you cannot use the $1 off Target Store Coupon. the store coupons are treated as price matches since they do not get redeemed/reimbursed. It saves you $.97
Did they change their policy? If so that is great there are about 100 Target coupons that I can use now. Wow and all the Walgreens coupons with their store sales. So I can use the Walgreens monthly coupon book coupons that match up with the Walgreens ad, plus a manufacturer coupon now also?
I think most of the Walgreen Monthly are manufacturer coupons so that would not work.
Ok, what I’d like to know is how you get your Walmart to stack coupons like this….mine will only take one and after bragging on them, now their machines seem to be getting super picky and spitting out coupons that are right and causing problems….ugh, that’s what I get for bragging I guess…lol
They don’t treat competitor coupons like MFG coupons, they put them in as a price match.they will have to subtract the amount of the competitor coupon from the sale price and put that in as the price match.
I just called corp. and they aint stacking coupons good luck
It is not treated as stacking coupons because they don’t treat “competitor coupons” as coupons. They are treated as a price match.
I just talked to corp. They said their policy specifically says the coupon must state a price and not be for $’s off. They also said who ever gave you the info was mistaken. If they were to take it it would be like accepting competitor coupons and just adjusting the price. They repeatedly said this is not how their policy is supposed to work.
I called again and was given the same answer as before. You are price matching it down to $1.99 and using a MFG coupon. I have sent an email to the higher powers and I am awaiting their response. I am not sure how you asked the question, so I cannot respond to what you were told, with the exception of the purpose of the Walmart Ad match Policy IS to be able to buy a product at Walmart for the same price that you can buy it at any of their competitors at the time of purchase.
Ok…let me get this straight…
1. You can now price match competitor’s COUPONS by price match, even though on the coupon it doesn’t state a price of item just the dollar off. Walgreens monthly are mostly Walgreens coupons & that would work in this scenario) No need to scan coupon bc it won’t be redeemed?
2. You don’t need to price match ad bc walmart is $.03 cheaper, just price match the other store’s coupon?
3. This is going to be huge! Especially when you count doubling! You would get twice the amount of manufactures coupons + the price match of the store coupons! Yippeee!
4. It would eliminate the need for price matching in ALOT of instances, such as this one. I’ve found where had I been able to use the competitor’s coupon the deal would be better at walmart.
Hold on, slow down. The competitor coupons are price matches. so you have to price match the whole thing, not jus the part that works to you advantage. I am also gettng clarification from the higher ups. I have talked to 2 separate customer relations people and they have both verified that this is the way it should be done. It is ultimately up to the Store Manager. When I get a response from corporate I will update.
I’ll admit it…I don’t understand! What I’m ultimately confused about is, why they would price match a coupon (without a stated price on it, per their policy) with a deal in the competitor’s ad? That means they’re accepting the ad as the “stated price” on the coupon without it being actually stated on the coupon which ultimately contradicts the coupon policy!
My understanding is that they want you to be able to buy a product at Walmart for the same price you can buy it anywhere else. This does not mean they will adjust the Walmart price if the store price is higher. It is a total price match.
If they accept this, that would mean for every store that has their own coupons and a sale which you can match with them, then you can price match both their sale price & coupon to walmart!?! Again that’s huge! They would be opening up for price matching ALL stores with “in-store” or web coupons.
But Marjorie, they would have to happen to have the item they have a coupon for in their ad as well in order to use the $ off coupon. That is what Paul is saying. They HAPPEN to this week. Did that help?
Lol… I see what you are saying and understand what you mean about doing this deal correctly. I just wanted to say you are brave for posting this because you have just opened up a whole can of worms for the people who don’t understand it. Good luck!!! 🙂
I think I will try this. The idea is to get walmart to price match to the target store coupon for $1.99, then use the $1.50/1 manufacturer coupon to make it 49 cents.
I am just going to go to target for this one… the cashier looked at me and laughed when i tried this I had about 15 meat and veggies in my basket too, i asjed for the manager her said no so i gladly left my items there now i will be going to target.
Well Paul just 2 get alittle of the fustration off of trying 2 explain this and the majority of peeps not understanding…I get It! It is simple 2 understand they way u put it,but sumtimes we dont take the time 2 read carefully cuz we r to quick on answering….people come on its easy….walmart wants ur business. walmart will price match the price at the time of paying…so if the toothpaste is 2.99 & u use the $1 off u will be paying 1.99 @ register @ target. and thats wut walmart will price match the amount u will b paying @ target! which is $1.99 so u go 2 walmart and price match the toothpaste @ 1.99 then give the mfc for 1.50 off and pay only .49 cents..Paul i no walmart doesnt require u 2 have the ad with u..mayb if they just let them no the price match amount then give the mfc, it will b less confusing? well 4 those who dont understand. Wut do u think?
He is saying you need the target ad in order be be able to use the target $ off coupon, not for actual price match…
What I think you are saying is that I can use the Target coupon if and only if the item represented in the coupon is also on sale in the Target ad? And that this would be called a price match.
Second thought.. apparently that Target coupon is not a “store coupon” it’s one that says manufacturer coupon?
yes its a target coupon from target.com
yup….u got it!
i meant yes on this question
the target coupon would be like a register reward at wags……..I pricematched the toothpaste at my walmart. Wags had it for 3.99 – 2.00 register reward= toothpaste for 1.99. So i Price matched it from the begning at 1.99 then used the 1.50 off coupon and paid .49 cents…..it would be the same way with the target price match. Target has it on sale for 2.99 – 1.00 target coupon= toothpaste for 1.99. I would price match it at that price and give them the 1.50 off coupon….and you have .49 cent toothpaste. The only tricky thing would be showing it to them if they asked…Like Paul said you would have to show the ad and the coupon making it 1.99 then use your coupon at the end. My walmart does not ask for the ads and I have never had them ask they just price match without questioning me….but mine will price match after the Register Reward wich makes it easier.
Wow, I wish mine would PM after a register reward.
Paul, you just confused everyone. I understand what you’re saying but honestly…there isn’t a point in making a hassle at Walmart to price match when you can go to Target and use the coupons. Like Mel said above, good luck.
the bad thing about target (well @ least the 4 closet located 2 where i live) is that they have “Limits” not more than 1 target.com coupon of the same product per purchase….thats y i just dont bother coupon shopping @ target
WOW, lol. Paul, most of the coupons in the Walgreen’s monthly savings book are store coupons. I tell my coupon followers that if they are not sure, look for the stores logo, the Spot for Target, and the red W for Walgreens. So, when Walgreens has a STORE coupon for $1 off 2 M&M’s and they are on sale for $5/2, you CAN price match them to $4/2, then if you have any Manufacturer coupons you can use them as well. TO CLARIFY THE M&M’S ARE AN EXAMPLE, NOT AN ACTUAL CURRENT DEAL, lol. Not trying to be rude, I just want as many people to get the best deal. I used to be a loyal Walgreens shopper, but I am in the stupid test market for the points and now I only go in there 1 time a month to get the monthly savings book to PM all month long when the sales & coupons align. That is how I know most of the coupons are store coupons 🙂
No offense taken,my blog is I heart the Mart! I do not shop at Wags much, that is my wife’s department.
What I think we don’t understand is that there is NO published price for the $ 1.99. Sounds to me like you are using a competitors coupon, which is not allowed. Not trying be rude, but I agree with Josette. Its like trying to price match after a register reward. It would be interesting to hear what the higher ups have to say.
this is nothing like matching a register reward. register rewards are coupons you get AFTER a purchase and not to be used at the time. In addition you cannot use them on the same product and get another RR. I am just saying that this is the price you can actually buy it at the time of purchase from Target. Walmart has the Price Match policy so you can buy it @ Walamrt for the same price you can buy it somewhere else.
good grief! you have a lot of patience, paul. i get it. really, the coupon has nothing to do with it, it’s just that it’s part of the advertised price, which is what you’re matching. not that hard, really. thanks for all your work! 🙂
I didn’t know this was possible until I went to walmart and the cashier was confused but the manager said I could use a manufacturer coupon and a store coupon. The process is just different. They subtracted the other store’s coupon from their price and they used that for the price match and then take off the normal manufacturer coupon is was great!
Ha! Paul, bet you didnt think you were gonna get all this stuff in response to that post lOL! Well, your patience for all those who do not understand is exactly why I vote for you EVERY day at cheapsally.com 🙂 THanks for all you do- happy you take the time. I would have bold letter told people PAY ATTENTION by now 🙂
Wow….you are a patient man.
Lol! My Walmart would NEVER do that in a million years! They won’t even take a catalina coupon that matches all the rules just because it has anything to do with a competitor… It was a nice thought though! Thanks for all great help you give us! 🙂
Paul … I COMPLETELY get it – Ladies (and Gents) don’t get frusterated with Paul he is HELPING us! Geezus only knows how many hours he spends helping us a day. As with any coupon tip – it is up to the Wal-gods to decide if we can do it or not lol.
He is saying to TAKE YOUR ADD for $2.99 to show that it is currently on price cut at Target. TAKE YOUR TARGET COUPON to show that the coupon is ALSO VALID at the same time as the toothpaste promotion. You want to PRICE MATCH the $2.99 less the $1.00 TARGET COUPON which is $1.99, throw the Target coupon in your purse because you are NOT redeeming it, and redeem your Manufacturer Coupon AFTER you Price Matched the Target Coupon. The current sale price and price you would pay at Target if you bought the toothpaste @ Target. You are NOT redeeming the Target Coupon, simply using it as your PRICE MATCH $2.99 sale price, price match the -$1.00 coupon and USE your MQ.
My Walmart will PM Walgreens ads minus their in-store instant coupons anyway.
