The Walmart Coupon policy talks about accepting competitors coupons. This is what they have to say:
Competitors’ coupons
• A specific item for a specified price, for example, $2.99
• Buy one, get one free (BOGO) coupons for items with a specified price
• Have a valid expiration date • Are acceptable in black and white
An amazing example of this, is this weeks Safeway (or Safeway affiliate store) store ad.
This is the 3rd page of the ad that came out today. Above is an ENTIRE page of “competitor” coupons that you can use at Walmart. Because each coupon lists a specific price you can use them at Walmart. This is how it works.
You take the ad, find the item you want, if it is less in the Safeway ad you want to use the ad. Now, when you are at the register, you tell the cashier…
“I want to price match this item to the Safeway price of ……”
Then show them the Safeway coupon. They are not going to scan the Safeway coupon. Basically, they just override the price as a price match and give you the Safeway price and you keep that Safeway store coupon. Now, you can also use a manufacturer coupon on top of this. Why? Because the first price change was a price match and now you can use a “cents off” manufacturer coupon on top of that. If you have a problem doing this at your store, call 1-800-walmart and ask them to inform the store manager of the Walmart coupon policy.
My favorite deal this week that I am getting from the Safeway ad at Walmart is the Kingsford Charcoal for only $6.99! This actually beats the Kroger price I posted about earlier today. There is a $2.00 off meat with purchase of Kingsford charcoal.
Buy Kingsford Charcoal for only $6.99
Buy Meat to go with coupon
Use $2.00 off meat with purchase of Kingsford
Total: $4.99 for charcoal

The past couple of times I have went into walmart intending to use a price match and a manufacturs Q I have had issues. The first time it happened the cashier rang up my order and after I had paid told me that they just had a meeting and were no longer allowed to PM and use a Q on the same item, but he said he would let it through this time. I went and checked the policy but it didn’t say anything about this restriction, so I tried it a second time. This time it happened the cashier refused to even scan my coupon for the PMed item because he said I could not do both a PM and Q. I just left the item (I think it was UP2U gum PM to CVS). Is there something I’m missing here? Are they allowed to do that? I didn’t see anything in their coupon policy, but maybe I am overlooking something…? Thanks for all you do! 🙂
Yes Heather, you are allowed to price match and use a coupon. The point of the policy is that Walmart wants you to be able to pay the same price in their store that you could pay anywhere else.
