In trying things out for you guys, we ran over last night ( to a different Walmart) and checked out using the following coupons:
I bought:
Radio Flyer Caterpillar (clearanced for $14.50)
Wonka Candy Bag $1.50
Advil $3.68
Gum $.88
I used the following coupons:
$2 catalina for Wonka from Kroger
$2.50 catalina for Advil from Kroger
2 $1.50 Register Rewards (from Walgreens)
They took everyone of my coupons with out a problem! All the catalina’s beeped and they were overridden! Wow, the possibilities are endless using the Walgreens Register Rewards! You can use those to pay for all the things you buy that you don’t have coupons for, like meat and dairy products!
These are some of the problems that I see:
My wife swears up and down that they give her a harder time at the register than they give me. Unfortunately, I have actually seen this happen. I went through and used some coupons at a grocery store, 20 minutes later my wife went through the same line, with the same cashier, and was told she could not use them. When she asked why, the cashier would just keep saying, “because”.
Not saying that I get away with anything that I should not be. I do everything possible to make sure that my coupons are perfectly in order, not expired and for EXACTLY what they are intended for. But sometimes as a man, I think they just don’t hassle me.
Your store tells you “No” this is going to happen to many of you. What do you do?
I am personally taking this as my mission. To help as much as I can to educate the store managers and cashiers on their own coupon policy.
Print off the Walmart coupon policy.
Keep corporates phone number with you. CALL THEM if you have a problem! The more people who call, the better it will get for everyone. 1-800-WALMART (1-800-925-6278).
Always be polite. Even when they are wrong and make you feel like you are doing something wrong, kill them with kindness…
I tried yesterday with a (Kroger) manufacturer’s coupon. It beeped. She would not take it, asked a manager, and they said “no” too. I tried explaining coupon policy to them, but they just told me some story that made no sense about it being a Kroger coupon even though it says “manufacturer” at the top. Decided not to push the issue then.
Again, I am so sorry, but this is where we have to start calling corporate and ask them to call your store and talk to your manager. It is a hassle but in the end I think it will make for a better experience for everyone.
Wal-Mart on HWY 242 / I45 yesterday the cashier told me they will not take anything like this she called CSM and she said NO only manufacture coupons. I asked to speak to the Manager he looked at everything even a Target coupon that did not say manufacture coupon from the Target website and said “WE TAKE IT ALL NOW” So if anyone shops at this Wal-Mart the Managers name is Ryan. I even gave the CSM a copy of the policy and all of the emails. I thanked Ryan and asked him if he could please let his staff know that they take it all now. I wrote his name on my paper work and will always take it with me. He said if I have trouble in the future have the cashier call him or Zan (the other Manager)
Great Job Rebecca! Wow, technically, they dont even have to take that Target coupon. Thats amazing!
Oh Wow! Now I’m super excited to use RRs at Walmart. Will the cashiers have to manually enter them, or will they scan with no problems? I’d love to be able to use them especially for items that there are no coupons for!!!! =)
No i think they will beep. As long as they SAY manufacturer coupon they (according to corporate) are supposed to take them.
oops sorry I re read it! =)
What about ECB’s?? Try those for us Paul:)
Haha, they wont take those, they are CVS store coupons.
You have had better luck than me…good for you !!!
They won’t take either kind at our Walmarts here. Checking out, I try to get a young cashier ( older women who work at Walmart can be a real pain, especially about coupons that make something free…they look at you like you are stealing form the store ! )
Nonna, This is where we have to all work together (sounds hokey I know) and get all the stores to be on the same page. Call corporate and ask them to make sure the managers of your store know the coupon policy and take the coupons that they are supposed to.
Okay so I went to walmart today and asked a cashier before I even went and got my items about a coupon from a local store for 6 dollars off 10 general mills products. She said that they take all competitors coupons now and to just tell the cashier if they don’t know that they need to over ride it. So I went and got those items and used that coupon and the cashier did over ride it and i was able to use 2 manufactors coupons in addition. So technically speaking should they not do this for me? Also received the walmart ad in the post this week and it said they accept competitor coupons again. ????
Actually, I don;t think, by the policy that they sent me that they have to take those. It technically needs to give you a final price on the coupon. Not just a $ off $$ amount. Good work though!!!
So you are telling me that as long as a coupon says, “Manufacturer’s coupon” on the top that Walmart will take it? They are supposed to take the Kroger catalina’s?
Yes. That is the key, they are “supposed” to take it. Some people are going to have problems getting their stores to take them. My store can be picky and they took them the last few trips. We all have to call corporate if they are not taking them. Keep up the good work!
This is E.X.C.I.T.I.N.G.!! I am tripping over my words trying to tell my husband how excited I am ;0) You rock, Paul!!!!
Paul, you are awesome!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for taking up the cause!
Paul, you mention in this post that the guys don’t get hassled as much as the gals. It’s not just at Walmart. At Target the other day my husband went through the register first, with no problem. I was right behind him with the exact same items in my cart and the exact same coupons. The cashier refused to scan one of my coupons, so I pointed out that she just did it for her previous customer. She said she wasn’t “going to lose her job over a stinkin’ $2 coupon. I asked her to call over a manager, which she did. He instructed her to scan the coupon, and it went through. She wasn’t happy. I didn’t even get a “have a nice day”, whereas hubby got the whole eyelash-batting treatment!
I called the corportate number yesterday and asked about the official policy on manufacturer’s coupons and the lady told me it was ultimately up to the store manager to make that decision. Bummer! No one knows anything outside the box of standard coupons here in KY! I will talk to our store manager if I get a chance. Thanks so much for all you do!
We could use RR at our Walmart for about 2 weeks until the first batch they couldn’t get redeemed for – still not sure exaxtly why. Our manager even was seen storming over to Wags to try to get them to pay him for them 🙂 Since then all cashiers haven’t taken them here, but I say go for it. It was great while it lasted.
Thats what I am afraid of! I am going to get it all in writing. None of us want Walmart to not get reimbursed for them, that would hurt everyone.
I went to my walmart in Powell, TN and had no problem using my walgreens and krogers catalinas because it read manufacturer coupon! I asked her before she scanned it and she said they welcome those coupons! One was a $7 RR, woohoo cheap meat and produce! Thank you for letting us in on it!
Melissa
Your welcome! So glad you had no problems!
Can you believe that , the Walmart next to my home does not accept even the manufacture coupons. !!!
I asked the cashier to call the manager , and I explain the coupon policy to the manager but finally she said NO , we do NOT accept Internet coupon.
And then I tried to use Register Rewards from walgreen , but the manager said NO again. !!!
I tried several time later , just to let me use the printed coupons , but I always receive the same answer NO
What can I do with my walmart store , and how can I change their minds
You HAVE to call corporate. Give them the managers name and store #. Ask them to call and speak with the manager and explain their own coupon policy to them. Then call you back so you know it was taken care of.
HI,
Thank you Paul for advising me.
I did call corporate this morning , and the lady who answer my call does not know any thing about cataline coupons !!
She asked me about my first name , last name , store location and my phone number , and then she said I will ask the manager to call you back .
Paul,
Thanks for you site and championing this cause for the public. I tried today to use a register reward at my local Walmart in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I tried it at the self check-out. The register scanned it and then said that someone needed to review this coupon. I was told in no uncertain terms by the cashier and the asst manager on duty that if a coupon has another stores name printed on it they will not accept it, effectively refusing to accept any catalina coupons period. I asked for her to show me where the policy stated that and for a copy of their coupon policy. She pulled out a book that had 1995 on the bottom of the sheet! She had a manual that was over 15 years old!! I told her that what she was reading was different from the coupon policy online. She went on to condescendingly explain to me that walmart.com is completely different from the stores, etc. etc. etc. I told her the policy was found on the Walmart corporate site. She couldn’t do anything more than her poor training would allow her to so I left my name and number for the manager and a copy of the coupon policy I had printed with her and asked for a call. We’ll see… I guess I’ll call corporate Monday morning.
Thanks again,
Natasha
Natasha,
Wow that is such an example with what we are all dealing with. She really had no idea what you were even talking about. I am sorry that happened to you. PLease call corporate Monday and ask for a call back when they call your store. Keep it up!
Paul, I have NEVER responded to ANY post and I know this is an old one, but I want to say THANK YOU! I was trying to look up store policies and ran across this. I’m a “newbie” at couponing, so clipping these two weeks and running from store to store got me a little down as it is time consuming. This put me back to my excited about saving money state of mind. I CAN’T WAIT TO TRY MY WALMART! Keep your fingers crossed!!!!! Thanks Again, Crystal
