I told you guys a few months ago that Walmart was bringing back Layaway. Thy just announced Layaway is available starting Oct 17 with final payment and pickup by Dec. 16th! I know this is a tough economy and this will really help to avoid the last minute shopping after saving your money for months. There is nothing worse than saving up for months for the kiddos and then not being able to find what they really really want. This is also a great alternative to using credit cards to pay for Christmas this year and avoid piling up the debt!
It does stink that you can’t use it for Black Friday items, but that is already total chaos so I understand that.
Here are the details:
Christmas Layaway Is Easy at Walmart Stores
The convenience of Christmas Layaway is now available on eligible toys and electronics that you purchase at your nearby Walmart store. It’s easy to take advantage of Christmas Layaway from Oct. 17 until you make your final payment and pick up your items by December 16, 2011. Just place your eligible items on layaway at the Walmart.com desk in your local store, where you will also pick up the items. Each item must be $15 or more and your total purchase must be over $50. There is a $5 service charge, and you can make payments on your Christmas Layaway items at any register in your Walmart store. Christmas Layaway is not offered on Friday, November 25, 2011 and is not offered on wireless phones that require contracts. Cancellation and service fees may vary by state and are non-refundable. Our store associates can provide you with complete details on these fees and any other restrictions that may apply. So get ready for the holidays with the convenience of Christmas Layaway at Walmart stores.
OK so lets bring on the products and try them out.
YESSSSSSSS! I HATE KMART!
While I am jumping up and down over this it’s only for toys and electronics. Sure wouldn’t mind household stuff being allowed. But this is a good start.
Yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
Big raspberries at Walmart – $5 to use the layaway? Every time I think that Walmart does indeed want my money, they prove otherwise.
each item has to be atleast $15? and a $5 charge??? seems like more hassle than its worth!
not $5 per item. for your whole layaway order. I don’t think a $15 min for Layaway is too bad.
Just called my local WM and she said they aren’t doing layaway 🙁 WTH? All I read was that it would be WM and WM Supercenters only. Well, mine if definitely a WM and it is definetly a supercenter!
I bet all the employees are not yet up to date on this.
Toni…you are right. I work for them and we at the store I work at just heard about it today. I actually just got more info from this post than I got at work.
I think this is great that they are bringing the layaway back for the holidays. The layaway feature is something that really helps a lot of people be able to buy for christmas. The only place in our area that does layaway is kmart (south florida). They also charge a fee to use it. I want to say it is $10.00 but I could be wrong. Also the only kmart in my area is not a very good one. There are a couple of high ticket electronics I was hoping to get for xmas.. and now it seems more do able! Ty for the info!!!
Yeah!! It was great to shop in October for Christmas. I have a large family.
I was kind of excited, until I read the details! I doubt I’ll be doing this.
I agree. I would be om with the 5.00 fee, but to limet to a 15.oo toy. I think i may stick with Amazon yet again this year.
It would be nice if they clarified electronics… that can range from anything from the electronic section to small kitchen/household appliances/gadgettes
I love Kmart layway!! And also Sears does a layway. But I hope our WM will do this as I have to travel 55 miles to the nearest Kmart, they have a $ 5.00 fee which I dont think is too bad of a deal!!
I have no problem with the $5 service charge as that is what Kmart charges also and it really helps for us non credit card users BUT I don’t understand the $15 and up per item. I have 3 kiddos and to pick each item at $15 and up for them would break me in a heartbeat! Love Walmart but think I’ll have to stick to Kmart again this year.
Can the clearance toys go on lay a way to?
ok love the idea wally world is bringing back the layaway for xmas..but 15.00 and up per item to put on layaway …lets get real here the economy is in a recession . most parents have more than one child ..who can really afford to spend that much per child. I have 3 children myself…i think im gonna stick to kmart for xmas least they dont require minium on per item u layaway…walmart really needs to rethink this whole situation…
I think the point behind layaway is that you can put the things that are more expensive on layaway to give you time to be able to pay for it. I am not picking on you, there have been a lot of comments with people upset about the $15 minimum. I’m not sure what items people want that are under $15 that they want to put on layaway. It seems to me that people want to use it as storage for Christmas and not for what layaway is. What am I missing?
I’m not sure that you are missing anything Paul. Walmart is offering a great service and everyone does not have to take advantage of it. personally, if I’m putting an item on layaway, it won’t be $3 or $5 items. It will be items above the $15 range. I have 4 kids myself and yes it’s a tough economy but the true purpose of layaway is to be able to buy those things you dont necessarily have all the money up front for, the bigger ticketed items.
First of all love the site…
Now, Here is what you are missing? I do not think people are wanting to use it as a storage. There are people at me who live paycheck to paycheck. We pay our bills and use coupons and price matching to save what little we can.I have a family of 8 and layaway used to be a way I could guarantee my children had a Christmas. Spending $15 minimum per item if you just got two kids 2 items that would be $150 plus tax. I like bargains and look for deals and personally I would prefer to buy them 5, $3.00 items then one $15.00 items. Kids just like to be able to open presents and having lots of little things under the tree makes them happier then 2 more expensive items.
Alice I totally get that part of it. I am just saying that those items can be picked up $3.00 at a time, create your own layaway. I of course, like bargains also and I know what a tight budget is, but think about the volume of customers that a Walmart has, where would they store all of these items. I know its hard, I was just trying to say what I thought Layaway was intended for
