The video is a little dated, so the BOGO policy has changed since then but it is still a great refresher or starter tool. I will have to make a new video soon!
Here is the Walmart Price match Policy:
Price Matching at Walmart:
- Our customers must inform the associate of the price and retailer (local and online)
- We reserve the right to verify the price and the availability of the identical item (i.e. size, model, quantity, brand, color)
- The item must be currently in-stock at the online retailer’s website* at the time the Price Match is requested
- We reserve the right to limit quantities to one-per-customer, per item, per day**
- We will match Walmart.com prices for in-store purchases
- The Store manager has the final decision on any Price Match
- Online Prices will not be matched in Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico for in store purchases
The following are guidelines and limitations:
- We will match any local competitor’s advertised price.
- We do not require customers to have the ad with them to honor a competitor’s ad.
- Items purchased must be identical to the ad (size, quantity, brand, flavor, color, etc.)
We do not match the price in the following types of competitor ads:
- Items that require a separate purchase to get the ad price
- example: “Buy [item A] to get [item B] for C”
- Items with no actual price that require a purchase to get free product
- example: “Buy both [items A & B] to get [item C] for free”
- Items that require a purchase to get a competitors’ gift card
- example: “Buy [item A] to get a $B gift card
- Buy one, get one free (BOGO) ads with no actual price given
- Going out of business or closeout prices
- Percentage off
- example: “All mascara, 40% off”
- Competitors’ private label price promotions
Walmart.com Price Match:
- Walmart.com will match the price of select online retailers
- The above conditions for matching prices at a Walmart store also apply to Walmart.com transactions
- Walmart.com will not Price Match from Thanksgiving Day through the Monday after Thanksgiving
- Refer to Walmart.com online price match policy for the full policy and/or additional details
- The Customer Care Agent processing the Price Match request for a Walmart.com purchase has the final decision for matching an online price
We do not honor:
- Misprinted ad prices of other retailers or closeout/”going out of business” sales
- Private brand Price Matches
- Advertisements that require a purchase to receive a gift card
- Percentage Off or Buy One Get One Free advertisements without a specific price
- Prices from Walmart Marketplace Retailers or the Marketplace Retailers of competitors, third-party sellers, Auctions or sites requiring membership
- Bundle offers, Instant Rebates, Mail-in Offers, Offers that include financing

Basically, if you take your local grocery store ad and see a great deal on Blue Bell ice cream priced at $3 a 1/2 gallon, Walmart has it for $6 you can take your local ad and when you check out show them the price and they will override their register to give you the cheaper price. It has to be a normal sale price, no weird sales, B1G1 free that don’t state the price or anything like that.
Price matching alone can save you a ton of money at Walmart. Why price match? Because I don’t want to run all over the city to different stores to get the good deals, I would rather just pick it up all in one place!
Now I have found that when you load your groceries onto the belt at Walmart you HAVE to have your ad ready, when they get to that item you must give them the competitors ad RIGHT THEN so they can change the price. If you wait until they are done ringing you up to show them the price match they will not go back and change the prices. Just a tip!
You may find it helpful to print out and carry a copy of the Walmart price match policy with you.

I’ve never price-matched at Walmart before so it was great to see your video showing us how it’s done. We have a big family, too, so we can use all the help we can get with our grocery budget. Thanks!

When I price match, prior to going to the store I take sticky notes and write one item per sticky note with the price that way the cashier can look at the sitcky note and I can show them the ad as I go. And there is no getting distracted and not telling them to price match an item, works really well for me.

Now that is a great idea so that nothing gets missed!!!

That IS a great tip. Thanks, Mandy!

Hey everyone. I had a conference call with my neighbor and Walmart Corporate. We asked about price matching, and they said something interesting to me. They said that, “You do not need to have the competitors ad with you when price matching. It is the job of the manger of Walmart to have that information.”
I think it is wise to have the ad to save some time. But let’s say for example you remember seeing it cheaper in your Walgreens ad but you forget to bring the ad with you. You don’t feel like driving home, and then back to the store again. You have every right to tell them they are suppose to have that information and still price match it.
The guy at corporate also told me that Walmart is not supposed to take the ad away from us when we price match. This was something that happened to me recently and he told me that associate was wrong.
This information is something at the corporate office and obviously not in our price matching policy guide. We requested for them to change that for the consumer.

That is exactly right. But I have NEVER had them have a ad, and I have fought with them at the register about it. I just figure I am safer with the ad in hand. Also I usually forget what I am shopping for unless I have the ad!

I price match a TON at Walmart. I only have a Walmart and Smith’s in my area so price matching is huge for me. I try to save all my price matching untile the end and group them into groups of what ad they are in. It makes is so much easier on the cashier and you are sure to get your deal.
Jenny says
I do the same. I save all items that I am price matching for the end. It makes it easier on the cashier and on me.

When you do price matching, can you also use coupons on top of the price match? Thanks in advance.
Paul says
Yes you can!

The closest walmart to me refused to pricematch and allow me to use coupons on tip of the price match. The manager came over and even said to me that they were accommodating me by price matching a “gimmick” sale which was rite aids dove deodorant sale 2 /$4 from a few weeks ago. The laager said they don’t price match gimmick sales and I can either have the sale price or use the coupons bur not both. He had to have been one of the rudest managers I have ever encountered. That experience reminded me why I hate shopping at walmart and would rather go across the street to target. On a positive note my super walmart that’s a bit further from my house was great about price matching the same deal and allowing me to use the coupons. It was a totally opposite experience. I have vowed to never give my business to the walmart closer to me.

Will they price match non-branded items, such as produce?
Paul says
Yes! That is where I get my best deals!
Annie says
Can I price match and use coupons? I’m a newbie
Amy says
Yes you can, Annie.

At my local Supercenter when pricematching I never have to show any ads, all I do is tell them the price & they take your word for it. Makes for a much nicer & speedier checkout!!! Plus, they have their new cp policy rules on paper @ every checkout so there’s no confusion. I have not had any problems with them on the new policy. Love my Supercenter, their so easy to work with!!!

last time I tried to price match and use coupons the cashier said “one or the other but not both” and it was only a .35cent coupon for tide. This happed at wal-mart on I80 in mesquite. Also I avoid using coupons that give overage because cashier most of the time give me a hard time. Anyone else had problems at this location?
