This is the shopping trip that Tiff and I did where we price matched the Walgeens ad to Walmart. Why does this help you in your shopping? Because, 1. I would rather go to 1 store and not a bunch of different ones, and 2. Walmart has a LOT more stock than a drug store and I can go in after the first few hours of a sale and have items still be there!
You can see a copy of the Walmart price match policy HERE.
Today, we saved just at $100 by price matching the items above. Our total was only $33 after coupons and price match! In the video below I explain how to price match the ad from Walgreens and what you can price match and what you can’t. For example, I showed the Purex sale, the policy says it matches the $4.99 price and not the $2.99 after RR price. I know that many of you are able to price match after RR, just consider yourself lucky!
This is what we used:
Ricola
Walgreens Price: $1.29
Walmart Price: $1.97
Use FREE Ricola Bag wyb Ricola Dual Action, exp. 12/31/11 (SS 10/02/11)
Total: $.63 each
Tresemme
Walgreens Price: $3.50
Walmart Price: $3.84 – $4.47
Use B1G1 Tresemme Shampoo or Conditioner, exp. 10/31/11 (RP 10/02/11)
Total: $1.75 each
Nivea
Walgreens Price: $2
Walmart Price: $2.49
Use $3/2 Nivea Lip Care Product, exp. 10/16/11 (RP 10/02/11)
Total: $.50 each!
Starbucks
Walgreens Price: $4 each
Walmart Price: $5.68
Use $2/2 Starbucks Frappuccino or Double Shot Multipack, exp. 10/22/11 (Pepsico Moments)
Total: $3 each

I love this idea if it worked our wal mart and we live between 2 fights every coupon will not follow there own policy and makes shopping more stressful than going to 2 different stores.. How do you get them to follow there own policy? any advice would be appreciated..
Great video! Thanks so much for taking the time to do that!
Good job! You had a very pleasant cashier, too. I got 2 of the Scrubbing Bubbles toilet things today and the cashier called the manager, kept saying that it was almost $10 originally, on sale for less than $4 and I shouldn’t be getting free things :::roll eyes::: Of course the manager corrected her, but I hate having to apologize to the people behind me at this store because the employees are so uninformed. I’m afraid to even try to price match at this place. I told her hey, sometimes you get lucky and have a coupon plus a good sale so it’s free…you can do it too…want the website? She didn’t lol oh well 😉
I love that you guys make these learning videos for us..I’ve not price matched yet at Walmart, I guess I am kind of scared of making mistakes & also the cashiers are not at all coupon savvy. They make me feel as if I am a criminal trying to rip them off. But after seeing this I am going to give it a try, and see what happens..Thanks again for such a great video. You just boosted my moral 🙂
I’m huge fans of both of you guys!! Thank u so much for explaining it. I do price match but not a whole lot. I’ve had nothing but good luck at walmart using coupons!!! :} So thank u. And thanks for explaining the make up deal. I understand that one better! :}
Love the vid! I agree with Jari on getting the Wal-Mart cashiers and sometimes CSM to follow the corporate policy. I mean this all looks easy peasy but half the battle is explaining to stubborn cashiers. So far, I have way more good experiences then bad at Wally’s but the few “bad” times Ive had, are sooooo frustrating especially when Im following the policy. Just this morning, the cashier tried to stop me from using more than one coupon bc it stated “only one per purchase”! I had to tell her that it means “one per item”, she replies “oh thats what that means?” SMH…..Any advice would greatly be appreciated! Great Site!
profile cashiers. I do not check out with middle aged white women. take a minute and watch people checking out, I will wait 10 minutes extra to get anyone other than a white female 40+
Ha ha ha ha ha! I do the same thing and the funny thing is…I’m a middle aged white woman 40+!
You are absolutely right!! They are going to scrutinize and make you feel awful even though you are following policy! lol
I want to thank you for all of your hardwork you do on a daily basis to get us the best deals at walmart but to be honest I don’t ever go to walmart unless it is a VERY good deal. I wish my walmart was like yours I always get a hassle whenever i’m going to get a free item at walmart, half the times they deny me. I even show them their coupon policy and I am within the guidelines of using the manufacturer coupon correctly and my coupons still get rejected. I’ve had this happen at my 2 nearest walmarts I’ve complained to the store managers and they also refuse to accept my coupons because the items will be free. I’ve complained to corporate and corporate sides with the store managers stating it’s the individual store managers call and they stick to their decision.
Hello Victor,
I agree with you. That always happens to me as well. The Walmart around my area is constantly giving me a hard time about having to combine – price match and coupons- items all the time. Their policy is constantly changing! I don’t like the fact that the Walmart policy states one thing and when you go out to the store the managers are saying something totally different.
I hope the Walmart around you cooperates one way or another.
If you are getting a rough time about it, simply call 1-800-Walmart right there and they will let the manager know that it is indeed part of the policy. The stores get fully reimbursed and have no bearing whatsoever on the price match. Stores make more money on coupon purchases than they do on cash. The get a min. of $.08 S&H for every coupon.
Hey Paul, Thanks I will be trying this !! If I can price match it would make it even sweeter of a deal at Walmart. My husband is retried from Walmart, so we get a (LITTLE) discount, so with matching CVS and Walgreens prices, plus coupons and discount (on some items). Now I think that would be the way to go !! Thanks Paula, I think you just turned on the a light for me. Can’t wait to tell my hubby : ))) Happy couponing !!!
Hi
I found a really good deal on the Tresemme’ Shampoo, conditioner, or stylers.
Price match to K-mart 2 for $5.00 use b1g1 free coupon pay OOP$2.50 makes each item 1.25 cents at that price I can donate it to the Women’s Shelter!!!
Does not include Naturals
In the Walgreens October coupon booklet they have a $1/2 Ricola cough drops. It makes them 79 cents! Then you can also use the manu. coupon of B1G1. Makes for even sweeter deal. Just an fyi 🙂
So, is all walmarts supposed to take a coupon, even after you price match? Because mine will NOT! Every time I’ve tried it, they say “oh, you’ve already price matched and got a deal, so I cannot use a coupon too.” and I say, “but I am buying the item that the coupon states, why can’t I use it?” and then they repeat what they’ve already said 🙁 SOOOOOO, frustrating!!! SO, please let me know if Every walmart is suppose to do this, thanks! Cause I will definantly be pitching a fit next time!
Hello Jessica,
I live in Orlando, FL and this always happens to me…. 🙁
I don’t price match…heck, I’m lucky if they even accept and get my coupons through correctly. I did want to point out that the cashier I had yesterday (normally I profile, yesterday I forgot because I only had a few coupons, but she was a grandmotherly looking lady 😉 but incredibly informed and patient with coupons!) told me that there is a glitch in Walmart’s system. She demonstrated for me how three of my coupons beeped that it accepted the coupons, BUT NO MONEY AMOUNTS WERE DEDUCTED FROM MY TOTAL!!! She said this isn’t super common, but does in fact happen. She said that she watches for it, but that most cashiers are not aware and only listen for the “good” beep and not paying attention to see if it actually deducts or not.
Thank you SO much, I Heart the Mart! You and your wife are awesome!
I have adopted the policy if my cashier is good to me and patient then I will be good to them but, If they have an attitude I will get a bigger one they get paid to ring me up and to know their company’s policy. I should not have to fight with a 17 year old boy to make purchases. I always start out extremely nice (sugar won’t melt in my mouth) but the minute they act like I am putting them out by using my coupons its all over. Luckily for the most part I almost always get wonderful cashiers that are patient and really intrigued by how much money I am savings. I am very organized when I get to the register and ask them their preference on recieving and entering the coupons (i.e. with each individual or all at the end). Start nice but dont let them run over you and be firm in persistent if you know for fact you are following policy.
I love your blog!! Thank you for all the great matchups!
Is that last weeks Walgreens ad? I have tried to find those items in my ad but don’t seem to locate them.
That ad is from August that he was flipping through. The deals that we did are from this week, Oct 2nd.
I totally price match and coupon load. It’s true you have to score the best cashier. I tend to go for the younger men or women. They seem more up to date on the policy. I score some amazing deals looking through all ads in my area to price match. Saves me over $100 a visit!
I live in Orlando, FL and I went to Walmart and tried to price match and item, but the cashier would not accept the coupon. Is that even right? Can they price match and use coupons too?
Thanks!
Yes. I worked at Wal Mart and you’re suppose to be able to price match AND use your coupons.
What about register rewards. Are you able to use the printed register rewards at Walmart? They say manufacturer coupon on them.
only if they are a mfg coupon coupon for a specific item. if they are an amount off of the total purchae then no.
Paul,
All the negative comments about Walmart makes me laugh in disbelief they are all familiar stories! Our circle of couponers in SE San Antonio are having soooo many problems with customer service at all the WM stores. We have had a sit down w/Regional mgr to explain what’s going on and we call corp on a regular basis. The rude, uneducated cashiers and csm’s doesn’t seem to be improving. I honestly can’t believe how badly they treat couponers! And apparently we aren’t alone…. I am getting to where I dread going because I know Its going to be a battle and I’ll end up being upset.
great video…helped alot.thank you
thank you so much for making this video i actually learned something new, have been a coupon shopper for some years now with my mom, and you explained about the walgreens ad great!!!!
