Paul-I cancelled dish this summer and bought a Roku. Mine is a black box and was $59. It is the best investment EVER. I have wireless service already so I pay $8 a month for Netflix streaming and use the free Roku channels sometimes. I just watched all 7 seasons of Deadliest Catch, also watched full seasons of hot in Cleveland, Damages, Intelligence, so many more. It would be a great gift.
does it have shows like snapped, the first 48, and do yo u monthly??? etc???
There is no monthly fee. I am not sure about those shows, I would almost call them and see.
They do have The First 48 but not Snapped
We have been using Roku for almost two years. WE LOVE IT. We Winter in one area and Summer in another area of the US. We just take the little box with us. We especially like to watch the old shows Andy Griffith, Monk. Good family shows that are hard to find on TV today. There is so much more there though. Well worth the little investment.
so then you don’t need cable? I am not a techy at all. Right now we have a TV/dvd combo. But we do have netflixs and a laptop as well. SO does it work to stream netflix on your TV? plus amazon prime ect? We have 8 children is there alot of programs for them? thanks.
I’m confused. So once you buy this box, do you then pay additional fees every month for Netflix, Hulu, etc etc?
I have had our roku for 3 months. It is a great investment! Got rid of the cable and just using roku. It has all the TV programs and movies that I like to watch and they come out with new channels all the time.
To barefootmomy: No you dont need cable, your Dvd plugins can work with roku. I think the higher priced roku has the HDMI plugins. It took about 10 minutes to set up. The roku has all kinds of channels including Netflix. It has educational and old time cartoons like bugs bunny. My kids love it. Alot of the channels are free but there are some with a subscription required (Netflix).
Overall this product is worth every penny!
Ditto to the above by barefootm! I am not such a tech type person myself! If we could just have internet and phone and the roku I think that would save alot of money over time! I pay anywhere from $149.00 to $170.00 a month depending if we rent movies on demand. Would this be an option to drop our cable and SAVE! Please let me know. Thank you.
I have Internet, phone and Roku-that’s it. I am not techy at all and it really is so simple to set up.
There are alot of free channels-you can see what they offer on roku.com
I pay for the Netflix service because I want access to movies, etc that Netflix streaming offers.
I used to pay $45 a month for basic cable, now I only pay $8 for Netflix.
Roku doesn’t have a monthly fee. It’s a one time purchase. There are other channels you can purchase which are listed on roku.com
I think The First 48 is on Netflix streaming.
Do you need a Roku box for every TV in the house?
