We stopped at a Walmart in west Texas today. The first thing that I noticed was that there were NO plastic bags at the check out. I have never seen this before.
BUT, I was in Midland Texas week and they are discussing banning plastic bags at the stores because of the litter. In some of these windy more desolate towns a plastic bag will just blow and blow all over and you end up with fields of them. So I am assuming that this is the case in this Walmart. Anyone know for sure?
For a small Walmart they had a REALLY good selection of clearance items. Dawn double pack of the BIG Hand Renewal dish soaps for $3.50.
6 pack of Kleenex for $3 {was $5.24} this was a great deal!
Scrubbing Bubbles bathroom cleaner double pack with a bonus toilet cleaner gel pack for $3.50 {was $4.98}.
Raid Flea spray is $5 {down from $7.66}, I did not realize this was so expensive!
Finally, in the parking lot we had lunch. When we travel we could spend $$ eating out for every meal and buying snacks at gas stations. Before we leave we pack a cooler full of meat, cheese, drinks, water, fruit, and condiments. In rubbermaid containers we pack bread, plates, plastic utensils, plus tons of snacks. For breakfast {unless provided in the hotel} lunch, dinner and snacks we eat at the tail gate or in a rest stop!
A 6 pack of soda {the bottles with the tops on them} is $3.48 at Walmart. These 20oz. sodas in a gas station are $1.39 – $1.59 each! I pay $.58 by getting them at Walmart before we leave and keeping them in the cooler. We stocked up on Goldfish from the mega event sale at Kroger last month for $1 each, price matched at Walmart. The chips I got at Randalls BOGO last week and the fruit was price matched at Walmart from Fiesta grocery store. I cut all the fruit up before we left and used leftover Glade Christmas containers to store it all in. I would rather have the kids snacking on fresh fruit then junk all day in the car. Somehow a large bag of M&M’s made it in… but that is ok! We are teaching the baby her colors and that is the only way to do it right?!
What do you eat when you travel?
we eat whatever is being sold in the restaurant of the gas station we stop at. but tony wont stop until we are on empty ( and in case you wonder my durnago can go from the woodlands to jackson mississippi on one tank!!!), then we stop. one person pumps gas and one goes potty, then we switch, one person stands in line for food, then we switch and one person watches/changes baby..person with food gets in car and hands it out while we drive. we never stop longer then 10 minutes for everyone to pee, pump gas, get food, change baby and back on highway. its like a nascar pit stop!!!
when my daughter played softball, we did the same thing, lunch meat, cheeses, fruits, chips, snacks, etc. one cooler for food, one for drinks (water, lemonade, sports drinks, we rarely bought sodas except for 7up or sprite that she liked). when you hit a small town at nite, rarely is a good restaurant open, i have had whole ball teams sitting at my tailgate eating as i would be the only one with food.
Hi Paul. I live in Midland and I have not ever had a real great experience at Walmart. Did they give you any grief over your coupons? Did you attempt to price match? And were in the world did you find these awesome clearance finds in the store? I frequent both Walmarts here in Midland, North and South side, while the staff on the North side is a little nicer I will tell you that on more than one occasion I have come out of those stores in tears or with blood pressure through the roof due to the way I was treated at check out. I was just at both Walmarts on Friday nite, late and didnt see the paper bags. What day were y’all there?
I really didn’t use many at all. I also didn’t price match we were only there for a day and I just ran in to get pictures. So sorry I am not more help! I was there on Tuesday of last week.
In the Outer Banks NC they have a ban on plastic bags as well the reason there we were told is because they blow around obviously but then the wildlife gets tangled in them and it causes huge issues.
I fully support the plastic bag ban everywhere, and this is why:

I bring my own bags and have grown to love how sturdy they are.
