I got this email today and thought I would give huge kudos to Mark and the rest of you that have been sharing your successes and your frustrations with us. I will preface this by saying that Marks story is an amazing one, but factually inaccurate in the age reference department as it relates to me. Other than crushing my feelings great job!
Hey Paul.
Awesome blog. Hey I am 26 year old male couponer! I am starting young, because I get a lot of wisdom from older people so thanks!Just thought I’d give you an update on how our Walmart in Elk Grove Village, IL deals with Catalina coupons. Here is my experience.I went to a Walmart a town over from where I lived and tried to used my Walgreens Catalina. The cashier put it in with no problem. They scanned in, and I was happy.I then went to the Elk Grove Village Walmart 20 minutes later and tried the exact same thing. Bought same products, and used Walgreens Catalinas. The cashier said “We can’t take these.” I just explained that they can take them, but she wouldn’t even try to scan it. I got a manager involved and they said, “Just take the coupon.” I insisted that I didn’t want the manager to just “give in.” I responded, “I just want to know what your coupon policy is so I know how to use my coupons here.”Sure enough after we chatted for a bit, they TRIED the Catalina and guess what!? it scanned in! They were all fascinated. 🙂However, yesterday I got a call from the assistant manager at my Elk Grove Village Walmart because a week ago I called corporate and questioned the coupon policy. The assistant manager (this is a different one than the one who worked with my the time I went to Walmart) said to me “I don’t even know what I a Catalina coupon is, or a Register reward is.” I explained what they were, and how it even says on Walmart’s coupon policy that Walmart DOES take them. Apparent the assistant manager doesn’t have to read the coupon policy. She is going to get back to me on Friday and let me know what she finds out. I am hoping to change our couponing policy at my local Walmart. I did explain I will shop at a different Walmart if they can’t figure this out. Sure enough she said, “NO! We want you to shop here.” She also told me she thinks that “the cashiers need to be retrained.”I see hope at my local Walmart and if we all keep pushing this, we’ll be in a better place.I’ll keep you posted about what she tells me on Friday.(post this to your blog if you want.)Mark S.
As my 5 year old would say BOOYAH BABY! Keep up the great work!
Wow, That’s Great Success!! I tried using a Catalina from Walgreen at Walmart the other day…..The cashier & Manager both insisted that it says “redeem at Walgreen” we can’t take it, we won’t get reimbursed” i tried to tell her, its a manuf coupon, why not?…the coupon Policy says you will accept Catalina coupons, they have to be from another store, cause Walmart doesn’t issue them. is the store name on the catalinas ony for advertisement? or can they only be redeemed at the store it says, thanx for your input.
I had the same experience, the cashier would not take my catalina from Fry’s even when I pointed out it said manufacturer coupon and he tried it again and said my register beeped I can’t take it but your other coupons went thru!! Lol…
Last Sunday I did persuade my reluctant cashier to at least try to scan my 2 RRs. They went through with no problem, leaving me with an additional $7 in savings. (I’m in Tucson, AZ)
I had no problem at all using my Catalina from Walgreens $5 off !!!!!!
I asked the manager before I shopped so I would not have a angry mob behind me and she said yes go to any cashier. The cashier said wait this says Walgreens on it. I said yes I already spoke to Manager (soooo sure of myself)
I said try to scan it you will see. So he did and he was just as excited about it as I was. South Florida Walmart way to be on top of things.
I had a similar incident happen to me at The Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market here in Oklahoma. I was trying to use a $1.00 coupon off any tide and I was buying the travel size. The cashier rang up everything and then I handed him my coupons (and mind you a line has formed behind me now) all the coupons scan except the tide coupon because it is a $1.00 off any size tide and the travel tide is $.97. The cashier proceeds to tell me that he can’t take the coupon because I am not buying the same one as in the picture and I said it states any size. To make a long story short the cashier refused to take the coupon and the customer service manager refused to take it and the assistant manager refused to take it. I was so mad!!! They had just treated me as though I was a criminal in front of other customers also. So I decided I couldn’t let it go so I emailed the corporate office of Wal-Mart and the very same day the manager of the Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market called me to apologize and tell me that he would retrain his staff. I hate to say that I haven’t been back, but it is hard for me to go back once I have been treated as though I was a criminal. But I am interested to know if they have retrained the staff. On a funnier note the manager told me that he uses coupons and wouldn’t want to be treated that way.
The cashiers at my local Wal-Mart are the undercover coupon police! I think they carry a badge and everything! I think the single most important thing that cashiers don’t understand is that the stores get reimbursed for the coupon. I’m not stealing!
I have had a similar experience at my Wal-Mart (coupon police) except a cashier I had a run-in with asked me in a very snotty tone “and just where did you get this coupon” I was buying the Scott’s scrubby pads. The coupon stated $1/2 so I purchased 2 (@ .89ea) of course the register beeped. Ugh, I get so tired of our Wal-Mart (Branson West, MO), I have gotten to the point I would almost rather drive 20 minutes to Target in the next town than be treated like a thief!
So I tried to use a Target catalina at my Wal-Mart today and I got a “we can’t take this, it says redeemable at Target”. I pointed out that it’s a manufacturer’s coupon and had the cashier scan it and guess what it didn’t beep but they still insisted that they could not take it because it stated redeem at Target. I’m calling corporate tomorrow to let them know because not just my cashier refused to take it but 3 other cashiers and a manager. Ugh!
Do they take ECB? Or just RR? It would make me way to giddy if they do!
No ECBS!
Awwww. Oh well. Thanks for all the work you put into this, even if your site sends my anti virus into a hissy 🙂
What the heck is up with that?? I have had every person I could get my hands on trying to figure out what the deal is with that? No virus, but it does freak out the anti’s!
No idea, and I’m computer dumb so I can’t help 🙂 But I bet it keeps a few people out. If I hadn’t gotten here from your wive’s site, I would’ve clicked off very quickly and ran my antivirus.
I do keep getting a pop up that says SPAMMY EMAIL USED!. No idea what that means, though.
