UPDATE: This is from the brita FB Page-
Hi Brita fans! Great news to report: We will be honoring all the mail-in rebates that were recently available! We apologize for all the inconvenience this caused. Thanks for you patience and sticking with Brita. Enjoy your rebates!
According to the Brita Facebook page they are NOT honoring the MIR that they have had posted. They have offered NO explanation as to why and I can’t even begin to speculate. I am not sure how they think they are going to get away with this but I will keep you updated with any information.
The offer SAYS expires 03/31/2012
Here are some options:
KEEP IT! you are getting a Water Filter Pitcher for $4.96
RETURN your pitcher
COMMENT on their Facebook page
CALL and ask for your receipt to be returned to you so you can return it
If you return it to Walmart without your receipt, you will likely end up with a $9.99 gift card, or whatever you paid for it. You should be able to get your money back.
::UPDATE:
“Brita FilterForGood Hi Rebecca – this is Andrea from Brita. The rebate supplies that were available were already exhausted. The rebate was so popular that we could not distribute any more forms. I really am sorry about this! We will be honoring all rebates that have been mailed in already. I am still very sorry the the inconvenience! And I can assure you that we do care about our consumers and the problems we caused.”
You might also consider filing a BBB complaint.

a partial answer, but an answer none the less:

I agree with Joni.
this sounds like a class action lawsuit to me. I am not an attorney but I would suggest that you take screen shots of the brita facebook page. I did not do this rebate deal, glad I didn’t right now.
I did this deal months ago when it was posted and got my $10 check last week. It takes a LONG time to get your rebate.
Same for me. Took like 15 weeks but I got the check last week.
I dealt with this a long time ago too. I complained to the company and they said that I would receive a 10.00 coupon off my next purchase. However, I never received the coupon. About a month ago I wrote them stating that I never received the coupon and I never heard back. Then this week, I received a 10.00 rebate check from Brita. I would contact the company and see what happens. Worse comes to worse you could get a 10.00 coupon. Good luck everyone!
I did this deal at Walgreens back late sept of 2011. Still haven’t seen my rebate of $10
If we haven’t mailed it in yet but have the form, can we still get the rebate?
Ok, so I don’t even know why I am about to make this comment because I know it’s going to get slammed hard, which is why I will be making the comment and that’s it…
This is exactly what happens when there are thousands of blogs posting the same deals, with thousands more reading and getting in on the posted bargains, that things like this happen. In my personal opinion, I wonder how many people are actually going to use, or even needed one of these pitchers. How many live in an old house where the water smells soooo horrible and the filter at the water heater needs to be changed once a month because it gets so dirty? I do, and I’m not huffing and puffing about this, not ready to start a huge uproar of threats, etc. Stop to think what all the complaning, etc, is going to do, REBATES WILL SOON DISAPPEAR! I personally have a lot more serious things in my life to worry about than some company that is stopping a rebate before the expiration.
Must be nice for those of you that live in nice situations that something like this is soooooooo upsetting.
I completely agree with you on this one!
Maria I completely agree with you! When I see a deal posted on every site I know that the shelfs for it will be cleared quickly or the deal will fall through for some reason. I too wonder how many people have stockpiled things they do not need or will never use just because it was a good deal. I have just learned to focus on buying things that are on sale with coupons that I can actually use and I plan my menus around that. Nice to know I am not the only one who feels this way!
totally agree with you! personally, i did the deal back in october, and just received my rebate last week. but if it wasn’t for this deal, i would have never purchased one. and we love it!! we used to go through so much bottled water.
Maria, this is the smartest thing I have seen someone say in a while, when it comes to coupons. People are ridiculious when it comes to coupons & rebates!
I totally agree with you, if not getting a $10 rebate makes people want to tar and feather the company, they really need more important things in their lives.
A class action lawsuit??? Are you kidding me??
So, what I am not getting my rebate for $10, but I am enjoying clean water, and the pitcher was still a good price.
I totally agree with you Maria!!
I also agree with you when you mention people getting upset over it.
I actually bought a Brita pitcher (and I LOVE it, and am planning to buy a second one, rebate or no rebate!) almost two weeks ago.. before I ever heard anything about a rebate or a coupon for it. Sure.. I printed out the rebate form once I learned of it, but since ‘procrastination’ is my middle name I never did get around to filling it out or sending it in.. but I’m not losing any sleep over it, nor am I going to boycott their company!
Maria S-I totally agree with you. You win some, you lose some. Most that purchased this pitcher only did it for the moneymaker/rebate and they are the first to complain. It just bothers me that us as consumers will break the rules (purchasing 4-5 pitchers (one per household)/using rebate forms that were meant for ppl that registered to gain from it and then get mad because the company won’t honor the rebate. Go complain and make a change about something that will actually matter-like education, our kids, our neighborhoods, etc. Like you said due to the misuse by consumers REBATES will go away and so will many coupons and coupon deals also.
I totally agree. Everyone wants to get in on the action even if they really don’t need or want. Enough already. All this is doing is adding to our already full landfills. You don’t have to buy it just because you have a coupon. Look at those obsessed people who have hoarded so much items that they will rot before being used, but that’s ok, it didn’t cost much. HUH? Is this where we are heading now?
I can’t help but agree with Maria S. Websites like these are wonderful but I am wondering what the long term effects will be. Blogs like this may inadvertantly bankrupt companies and alter how manufacturers offer coupons. I don’t think manufacturers truly understand just how many people coupon. Brita obviously did not anticipate the demand this rebate would create. Brita makes a quality product and I would hate to see it go away because of this situation. I would ask all to reconsider how they coupon, just buy what you need. When a killer coupon/rebate becomes available ask yourself, do I really need that? If you don’t , let it pass and give someone who truly needs the product an opportunity to purchase it.
I totally agree Pamela. Couponing has saved my family so much money at a time when money is so tight. And I too fear that we will eventually see manufactures change the way they offer coupons. So many blogs screaming about the same freebie deal or money maker cause frustration to people like me who actually may NEED that item only to see the shelves cleared at every single store they visit.
Its not all of the blogs that are going to “hurt” anything — it is the people who take it to the extreme and commit coupon fraud, as shown as a spectacle on TLC’s Extreme Couponing. IMO if a company didn’t want to offer incentive to purchase their product, the wouldn’t. Companies know what coupons are available and what rebates they have put out when they are selling products so for them to take a loss isn’t the big picture. With a Brita, in case you didn’t know, you have to purchase replacement filters every so often. Most likely Brita makes more profit off of each filter than they do the actual pitcher — which is the whole point.
I do agree with you whereas people are purchasing items they don’t need or don’t want just because it is free. I use coupons responsibly, and only on products my family and I intend to use. I have never cleared a shelf of any item, nor have I “cheated the system”. All of the information I have put to use in helping me save money with coupons, has been learned through blogs.
I’m with you Melissa! I won’t clear a shelf and often give out my extra coupons to others and try to help them get a good deal on items they will use! Just trying to stretch my dollar the farthest I can so I don’t know why people are making it seem like if you coupon your a horrible person that is trying to somehow “Cheat the System”. I am very thankful for blogs like this because it has helped me feed my family in a time when the economy is not that great. Thank you Paul!
Maria, I totally agree with you. Couponing and getting good deals is no longer looked at as a privilege for some people, but an entitlement. There are so many more important things in life to worry about that this should not be as big of an issue as people are making it out to be. I would hate to see how they react when faced with a real problem. On the other hand, I’m disappointed in Brita for their actions as well. They should’ve said from the beginning “we’re only honoring x amount of rebates”. People would’ve still been upset, but maybe the backlash wouldn’t be quite so bad.
I’m wondering if legally they can pull the promotion early when the rebate form clearly states that it’s good thru the end of March. I have the rebate in an envelope at my office and was going to mail it today and got busy. Now I’m wondering if I should take it back or what….Decisions, decisions.
If you bought the pitcher for $9.99 and had the $4.00 coupon, it was still a great deal for about $6.00 out of pocket!! Still too bad about the rebate though!! Better luck on the next deal!
They did say at the bottom of the rebate form that they would only honor it as long as supplies or monies lasted. Its in the small print. I was fortunate to get my form in the mail in early November and I received my rebate already. I’m just sorry that other consumers are out of luck on this one.
The people who have a real problem with it are the ones who bought the pitcher, not because it was in sale or for quality water purpose but for the simple idea of beating the system with a rebate to make money in the purchase. Couponing for some is a way to save money to feed a family, for others it’s become OCD to get every possible deal and complain when it doesn’t work in their favor
I agree Joe, the people who purchased it out of need are not complaining because they needed it and the rebate was just an extra bonus. Serves the ones right that were trying to “beat” the system!
Y r u even on this site, the Whole purpose is indeed to get the item an too always save or make money. That is couponing!!!! Oh! An I did not get the pitcher but I am still pissed.
Considering that the $4 one is saving on a pitcher that is usually around $10 at Walmart, it IS SAVING money! That’s a saving of about 40% (and not to mention all the bottled water I DON’T have to buy because of this pitcher). I’m still going to get the pitcher, even if I can’t get the Rebate. If there is a person who doesn’t need it, ask for the receipt back, take the thing back to walmart and get the money back. They’ll still make money off of it, because many stores don’t check to see if you used a coupon on that item. So if these people are really so upset about a $5 overage…then take the thing back and get those $5!!! There is no need to be pissed, because either way you’d be saving money.
@Vaughnde, I just looked at a my rebate form and it does not say that wording.
This is why I am always skeptical when it comes to PDF coupons. Now it’s rebate forms. From now on I want my rebate form from the package itself.
Water is good for you. $5-$6 is a lot less than you’d pay for a few months of bottled water. If you don’t want it, you shouldn’t have bought it. Couponing walks a fine line with hoarding when people are buying things they don’t need/won’t use just because it is free or better. SMH ridiculous…
OMG Maria…. “…and the filter at the water heater needs to be changed once a month….” I have never changed a filter on a water heater! I am 48 y/o…. IS there a filter?? (LOL, but I really haven’t ????)
cyndi, i have a sister who needs what is called a “whole house” filter due to their water, and some in south texas use systems because of hard water (ever tasted texas city tap water, ugh). maybe that is what she is talking about, ???
I bought my pitcher originally because it was a good deal with coupons and the rebate. I bought it months ago and have been lazy, so to this day I have not mailed off the rebate yet. Quite honestly, I am very happy with my pitcher and glad I purchased it. I wouldn’t care if I received the rebate or not (if I even actually get it mailed off). My kids wouldn’t drink the water from our faucet (we have a system on the faucet but I think it’s getting old and not working well), but they LOVE the water from the pitcher. Was worth the money!
While I didn’t get in on this because I don’t need or want it, I have to agree with people being upset about it. Companies put out promotions to get you to buy their products. And, in this case it worked. So, when they pull back and say “no” on the rebate, they should hear that people are upset.
I bought the pitcher but do not have the rebate form! I thought I would be able to print it but now it seems this is not the case! If anyone can steer me in the right direction to get one it would be much appreciated!
there are no prints available for the rebate.
I have the form printed but have not bought it yet. Can I go ahead and buy this and mail it in and still get my rebate?
I just bought them on the 19th and have the form along with my receipt ready to go. Do you think I dare mail it in since them gave the update that they will honor the rebate? I guess I could always try and if not then return the Brita Pitcher with a request to have my receipt returned. What are you going to do Paul?
If you bought the Brita Pitcher just for the rebate then you missed the whole point to begin with…
