Before you call the guys in white coats let me assure you that I have NOT lost my mind or gone anti-Walmart. While I”m always showing you the latest deals and best ways to save money while shopping at Walmart, there are also a few ways that shopping (pretty much in general) will not save you money.
- Shopping Without a Plan: Simply walk into the store knowing you will buy something and have no idea what it is you need. Not only will you forget 1/2 of what you really need but you’ll also pick up things you probably have 20 of at home b/c you’re just not sure. That’s probably why you have 20 of them.
- Bringing Distractions, Make it a Challenge!: Bring along your kids, husband and talk to your BFF on the phone. Just grab anybody that can help load more junk in the cart that you don’t really need. After all if they think you need it you probably do, right? I am of course having fun with this one, you should bring everyone. You should however teach them the ground rules and give them all something responsible to do during your trip!
- Venture Off Course: So you’re there for milk and eggs, why not go look at car batteries and TVs. After all if it’s a good deal you’re still saving money.
- Buy Because You Have A Coupon: You’ve clipped all of these coupons so why not use them? Sure you don’t have dentures but you have a coupon for $0.50 off.
- Starve Yourself Before You Shop: How are you going to know what you REALLY want if you don’t go in starving? See what your body is craving the most when you are at the physical breaking point!
- Never Read This Blog Again: This is the best source on the internet to find the hottest deals on anything Walmart related so reading would save you massive loads of money. Stop reading it and watch your pockets empty, you may even lose all your friends!
There is obviously a large amount of sarcasm involved in this post, but hopefully it brings a smile to your face!
Please feel free to add any tips you think would be useful!
This is too funny and so true I think at least one of these applies to me every time I go 🙂
Love it! So true
I think being TOO focused can also cause you to not save as much. For instance, you won’t find COUPONS if you don’t venture into the aisles that you didn’t have on your list. Even NOT going into stores and gas stations unless you HAVE to, can cause you lost savings, really. Manufacture coupons can be used anywhere, yk, and so can competitor’s coupons be used at WM. 😉 But, you have to remind yourself and your kids, THIS trip is an expedition, not a shopping trip. And, never tell your 6yo that you’re going into WAG to get FREE candy. She’ll keep announcing it throughout the WHOLE STORE until you get it. And throw a bigger fit, if you don’t find it. So, to not look like a jerk, and esp if you DONT find the candy, you have to buy SOMETHING. LOL
You rock, and I love this blog! I visit daily. Just wish my wal-mart had your prices and selection 🙂
Going during peak hours is a bad plan, I personally become so distraced by the fact there are so many people, not enough cashiers, have to keep moving my cart out of folks way while I sift through coupons. I find that going late in the evening or really early in the morning when distractions are limited works best for me:-)
hahahahha this is pretty darn funny. I have left walmart spending SOOOOO MUCH money and im like what! The best savings I have gotten are on electronics like dvds are the cheapest there and switching my contract iphone over to this prepaid phone tracfone they had. Best smartest thing I have ever done. I pay month to month and pay for what I use. Thats called savings. And i still have a samsungt404g
